It was at the dawn of the year 1991 that we the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians for the first time stepped into this beautiful land of Sikkim and were destined to explore to the West of Sikkim. It was the desire of the Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri Nar Bahadur Bhandari to begin an English medium School for the children of this area.

The school began on 8th April 1991 with 163 pupils. Sr. Philo Chirammmal as its first Principal, Sr. Aquila Phawa as the teacher and seven other staff members. The school had classes from Nursery to class II and went on upgrading every year. With its humble beginning gradually the school expanded up to Class X following the ICSE Board. We are proud to say that the school has catered to thousands of students and with good results. Many students who have passed out from St. Mary’s School have good hold in the society today.

Today, St. Mary’s Convent School holds a good standard in the society and in the state in all annual academics and also in other extracurricular activities. The students of our School have won many trophies in the interschool competitions organized by ARCEIS (All Roman Catholic Education Institutions of Sikkim) which shows that the students have got a lot of stamina in them. We pray that with God’s blessing St. Mary School will continue to flourish and serve the children of the locality. We take pride in the School. In the wake of the charism of Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello, we are highly appreciative of the Government of Sikkim for the support and help that we receive.

We have dedicated staff to follow up the integral development of the students.
