TEA GARDEN WOMEN CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY


NEW CHAMPTA - The Salesian Sisters joined hands with local women's groups to organize the international Women's Day on 12th March 2013 for the women from four villages under the Mary Vianney Church New Chumta. Over 300 tea garden women workers came in a rally from garden hubs like New Champta, Phoolbari, Siptiguri and Simalbari to celebrate the day with placards and slogans aimed at bringing awareness on: Violence against women, Rights of a Girl Child, Education and development of women in the society, and to do away with Alcoholism.

The day's program began with a rally to the surrounding villages and market place, with slogans. These women were very happy and enthusiastic in doing so.

Among the speakers of the day were the members of Social Work Matigarha like Mrs. Precilla Lakra who, talked on empowerment of women and their right in the society.

Sr. Mary Ekka FMA spoke on faith, challenge and forgiveness.

The Parish Priest of St. Mary Vianney Church New Chumta, Rev. Fr. Mouries D'souza encouraged the women with his talk based on family and marriage life.
